Keeping Daisy Cool On Hot Summer Days: PetCool Dog House Air Conditioner (And Heater) Cordura Kuranda Dog Beds
Daisy loves her large insulated home and it works great in the winter, but it can get a little stuffy on a hot
summer's day. Since Daisy is getting older we've become a little more concerned lately about keeping her comfortable
when the temperatures start to top out above 90º or more. We were glad to discover the PetCool Dog House Air Conditioner,
a robust cooling unit designed for dog houses up to 6' x 6' x 6' in size.
PetCool can often cool the home to about 20º below outside temperatures. A return air hose also enables the unit
to dehumidify the home as well. Daisy really seems to enjoy her AC.
Keeping Daisy Warm On A Cold Winters Day: Dog House Heater (And Air Conditioner) Kane Pet Heat Mat
We built Daisy's home with a doorway making up the left half and a wind break wall with window on the right. She can
choose between the breezier left half or move into the more sheltered right half area for added warmth and protection.
There's a window on that side and she loves looking out.
We're looking forward to utilizing the heating function on our new PetCool system this winter. We'll also be placing
a heat mat inside on the sheltered side to give her something warm to lie on rather than a cold floor. We've tried
different heat mat products over the last eight years but have always been happiest with Kane.
A Comfortable Place To Stretch Out: Cordura Kuranda Dog Beds
All our dogs and even little Daisy the Pygmy goat has a Kuranda bed to call their own. Kuranda's offer a supportive place
to lie down and rest that gets them off the hard, cold ground in the winter and into a cooling blowing breeze in the summer.

The Complete Shelter Layout:
After our carpenter was finished, the "dog house" for our goat ended up as follows: The walls consisted of T1 Siding
on the outside and another layer of plywood on the inside with a layer of Styrofoam sheeting in between for insulation.
The top was spring hinged in the back to open up as desired to clean the unit when needed. There is no floor and the unit's frame
rests upon wheels, which gets it just off the ground enough to keep the wood frame from rotting while keeping it low enough to
block the wind. The unit is built around two barnhome plastic dog houses with the open front facing forward and the inside sides
cut out to allow the goat to pass from left to right. The goat can enter on the left half, where the doorway is
and then move into the right half for a better wind break shelter as needed.
(It was our desire to offer Daisy a better wind break that started the whole project)
The right half has a window in the front
that she can look out of too. Since she is residing in the plastic dog houses with the channeled floor,
instead of on the ground, if she urinates the water will be channeled away to the sides of the bottom,
and the plastic bottom can be removed later for
hosing off. Having the houses inside with their own roofs also helps keep the goat from chewing on the inside of the wooden unit.
In the winter, we keep a pet heat mat inside on the right side, and we have recently added the petcool air conditioner for
summer. We have fenced the air conditioner off so she cannot access it and chew on the duct work. Daisy
loves her house!
