Chewable Aspirin For Dogs

Chewable aspirin for dogs can be a convenient way to treat your dog for arthritis pain. Since the above canine targeted brands are chewable they should be easy to administer to your dog. However, they are still aspirin, not a dog treat, so you will want to be careful to give only the prescribed amount. You will also want to be careful to keep the lid on tight and keep the aspirin in a location where your dog cannot reach it. Although many dogs aspirin meds are non-prescription, they should always be considered a serious medication as side effects and adverse reactions are possible. Dog aspirin can also interact adversely with certain pet medications and health products, so you will want to discuss the aspirin regimen in detail with your pet's veterinarian before you start treatment. The buffered variety of chewable canine aspirin is often prescribed for dogs to help prevent gastrointestinal and upset stomach issues.

Buffered Dog Aspirin
Buffered canine aspirin for dogs is quite often prescribed to help prevent gastrointestinal upset. Buffered aspirin usually contains a base to neutralize some of the harmful acid in the medication.

Precautions Against Giving Aspirin and Other Joint Medications To Cats: Most canine aspirins are for dogs only. Cats have a unique physiology that may not tolerate certain dog medications. Always visit with your veterinarian if you think they have prescribed something for your cat that is normally for dogs only.

Non-Chewable Enteric Coated Dogs Aspirin: "Enteric Coated" and "Buffered" are terms often used to describe aspirin meds. These terms are sometimes mistaken for being one in the same thing. Actually they are different. Buffered aspirins are designed to be easier on the stomach by containing a base that helps reduce the acid it contains. Whereas, enteric coated dog aspirin is designed not to dissolve until it has bypassed the stomach and reached the dog's intestine. For this reason, enteric coated aspirins for dogs such as Excel are not usually chewable and should not be broken up before administration.
