Difference Between Frontline Plus And Top Spot

Frontline meds are available for both dogs and cats, and both products contain the ingredient Fipronil to kill adult fleas. But, Fipronil works only on adult fleas and does not prevent flea eggs and larvae from developing further. However, Frontline Plus has an additional ingredient, S-methoprene, to resolve this issue and control fleas in the development stage too, something not all flea control products can do. Since Frontline Plus has an extra ingredient it can be a little more expensive but we find the extra, comprehensive protection we get from the Frontline Plus worth the slightly extra cost.

More Information On Frontline Flea and Tick Control Products

For prevention of both flea and tick problems, frontline meds are designed to be quick acting, long lasting and waterproof - even after bathing. Both the Original Frontline top spot and Frontline Plus meds kill most kinds of common ticks at all stages and adult fleas as well. Frontline Plus is what we use on our own dogs and sometimes on our cats as well, we like the comprehensive flea and tick control it provides. We've tried a few others but always come back to Frontline. According to the manufacturer's research, front line is believed to kill 100% of your pet's fleas within 18 hours of application and 100% of its ticks within 48 hours, Frontline should be properly applied every thirty days for total flea and tick control. For maximum effectiveness of frontline, do not bathe your dog or cat three days before or three days after applying. Frontline should be used on dogs and cats only and it is not meant for use on rabbits, small mammals and exotic pets. Frontline is made by Merial and is sold as a non-prescription medication.

The Spray Version - Another Alternative

Some pet owners prefer frontline spray because it can be a more cost effective way to treat multiple pets. However, frontline spray is a much messier process, it requires wearing gloves and following strict safety guidelines. It is also important to note that the spray version of frontline isn't recommended for individuals who suffer from asthma or respiratory illness as some people can have an adverse reaction to the spray.

Frontline Plus Reviews
The majority of frontline plus reviews online were positive with many customers having used the product successfully for several years. There seemed to be several who had tried other flea control or imitation products unsuccessfully that had come back to using frontline plus. In general, the minority of pet owners who were critical of the product complained that it had been ineffective and that their pet had continued to have fleas or ticks in spite of being on the product. Since Frontline meds have been on the market so long, there has been some speculation that certain flea or tick populations may have had enough time to develop a resistance to it. Personally, we have used their products on our own pets for over ten years with much success and have seen no signs that the product is losing its effectiveness or that fleas or ticks in our region have developed any resistance to it. We happily plan on continuing to use the product on our own pets.
