Reconcile For Dogs - Generic Prozac Fluoxetine
Prozac is a popular medication for people often prescribed by doctors to treat anxiety and depression.
Canines can also suffer from such issues and similar products are available for them as well, including
fluoxetine, a generic medication similar to prozac, and a fluoxetine hydrochloride medication
made specific for dogs known as reconcile.
Reconcile and fluoxetine for dogs are rx medications sometimes prescribed to treat separation anxiety, obsessive
compulsive disorder, depression and panic issues such as noise and thunder phobias. Reconcile works by affecting
chemicals in the brain that can contribute to these and other behavior problems. Once a regimen is started fluoxetine
can work quickly, sometimes within a week for some dogs but may take as long as eight weeks to take effect for others.
Fluoxetine meds for dogs are often prescribed in conjunction with behavior modification training and techniques for
maximum effectiveness. One of our own dogs suffering from loud noise, truck and thunder phobias was

Reconcile & Fluoxetine Meds - Potential Risks And Side Effects
Reconcile and generic fluoxetine meds for dogs can have potential risks, side effects and interactions with certain medications.
There are some dogs that should not take fluoxetine so you will want to visit thoroughly with your veterinarian before beginning
a fluoxetine regimen, be sure and let them know about any and all health issues your pet may have, including but not limited
to seizures, liver or kidney disease, and diabetes. Also let them know if your dog may be nursing or pregnant.
Be sure you let them know about all supplements,
health products, flea and tick meds and prescription medications that your pet may currently be using or receiving. Some
specific examples would include but not be limited to, clomicalm, valium, metoclopramide and antidepressants.
Even certain tick collars and treatments such as Preventic collars and Mitaban Dip can cause interaction issues.
Potential side effects include but are not limited to allergic reactions, strange behavior, weight loss, lethargy and
restlessness. As with many antidepressants, the medication may reduce the anxiety or depression your pet exhibits but
it may also reduce the outward excitedness or joy shown too - in other words, they sometimes produce a more "even"
personality, one void of both extreme anxiety and extreme joy. Some pet owners may consider this an
undesirable side effect of the drug.
