An Important Note About Applying Flea-Tick-Mosquito Control Products To Cats
It is very important to note that many ingredients in flea control products for dogs cannot be given to cats. As a matter
of fact some ingredients such as Permethrin, often found in mosquito repellant products,
are so toxic to cats that topicals containing Permethrin should not even be
applied to a dog if there is a chance that a cat may be exposed to it by licking or grooming that dog.
In other words, play it safe and
never give a flea, tick or mosquito control product for dogs to a cat,
or,
to a dog that is around a cat. Instead,
only administer products that are clearly marked as being safe for use on cats. This also true even when you find a product
such as TriForce,
Promeris or
BioSpot that makes both a canine and feline variety. Just because the product has the same name doesn't
mean that it has the same ingredients so the dog version can still be dangerous if given to cats. There are a
few exceptions including
Frontline and
Revolution products. These
products come in both cat and dog varieties, but contain the same ingredients for each.
They make a nice alternative for use on dogs
that will be around cats, we've personally used both Frontline and Revolution for years with great success.
